The [government release](https://www.beehive.govt.nz/release/report-shows-economic-contribution-seniors) presents NZIER's _Business of Ageing 2026_, prepared for the Office for Seniors. It describes the economic contribution of people aged 65 and over using rounded annual figures:

| Contribution | Ministerial release wording |
| ----------------- | ----------------------------------- |
| Paid work | Nearly / around $9 billion annually |
| Self-employment | A further $5 billion annually |
| Unpaid work | More than $20 billion annually |
| Tax | More than $13 billion annually |
| Consumer spending | Close to $55 billion annually |

The release says nearly half of people aged 65–69 are in the workforce. It does not specify an exact 47%. Its forecast of more than doubling older workers over 50 years is a projection, separate from the historical annual contributions.

Use the [Office for Seniors report series](https://www.officeforseniors.govt.nz/businessofageing) and the separately audited NZIER 2026 record (doc-0088) for precise reference years, labour-force denominators and accounting definitions. The release does not state the underlying year for every monetary figure.

This is evidence of a government launch and ministerial endorsement. It does not establish cross-party agreement, new service entitlements or implementation of a funding programme.

The earlier capture, including its unsupported exact percentage and cross-party interpretation, is preserved verbatim with its original byte hash in `artifacts/research/launch-supergold-carer-source-audit-2026-10-09.json`.
